First Student Project Comes Together

BUILD students started work on their first construction project, a tool tote, in March 2021. Students were given the project pieces in a kit and then worked on their own to assemble and finish it. Instructions and guidance were provided in Zoom sessions as students learned to get the pieces squared up, make sure the tote fit together with screws and then they got to take it apart and apply glue before screwing it back together for a final time. Finally, at the end, came paint. Lumber for this initial project was donated by the Windsor Rotary Community Foundation.

This tool tote is the first project for the BUILD students.
Students were given a kit containing pre-cut lumber plus the hardware, glue, and paint necessary to finish it.
On March 11, 2021, Rotarian Wally Krutz guided the students through the process of dry assembly on Zoom.
Wally had also done all the pre-cutting of the lumber for the tote pieces.
Putting in the first screws as the assembly begins…
Assembly involved learning to use several tools.
All put together and aligned. Ready to be taken apart for the glue stage.
Gluing it together and then the screws went back in.
Painting is the final step in the process.
