BUILD Academy Program Information

This page provides detailed information about the program.

Goal Metrics

  1. OSHA Certification – Each student will complete a 10-hour safety course and receive OSHA10 certification.
  2. Data requirement from California Department of Education:  50% population have to be ‘at risk’ student.  That means Free & Reduced Lunch, foster kids, homeless kids, students with GPA < 2.0, students with too many tardys and/or absences.  This means we can have smaller class size.  This allows teachers to intervene when needed.  Teachers have to volunteer for this program; they can’t be assigned.  Students have to volunteer for this program; they can’t be assigned.
  3. Safety – We will have a “Zero Days since injury” sign with the goal being to have a perfect safety record.
  4. Trimester grade reporting – Students are graded 6 times per year.  There will be an attempt to increase GPA.  Any grade below a “C” needs to be dealt with.
  5. Track students for attendance – Staff will intervene after 3 of either tardys or absences.
  6. Any students with IEP (Independent Education Plan) or 504 (Federal Plan for accommodating disabilities) – to insure access & success in learning environment.

Measurement of Success

  1. 100% of students passed OSHA10 certification quickly.
  2. Students demonstrated competency and knowledge of requisite tools and materials in construction trade.
  3. Based on student success, monitoring student grade – demonstrating proficiency in various skills in a scaffolded manner – from basic to advanced – both tools and construction knowledge.
